River Phoenix inspired shoot

A little while ago I started a series inspired by young, dead celebrities 'Gone too soon'. So far in this series I have done Marylin Monroe and James Dean. For this is a shoot we went downtown Halifax with River Phoenix as inspiration. Christian was every bit the professional and brought along the perfect wardrobe for our early 90's look. Next week I'll be posting Whitney Houston with our 80's inspired shoot!

110 film makes a comeback

In my second year of university I went to a recycling place called reverse garbage and managed to pick up around 10 cameras that people had donated. I held on to a few of these because they were in good shape and looked cool, something must have been telling me to because just recently Lomography started making black and white 110 film which will go in a few of them! To go along with it last week they announced 2 brand new cameras 'Fisheye baby basic' and 'Fisheye baby metal' which I'm excited to get my hands on mainly for the fact that even the regular size fisheye is light, and these babies are even smaller so I love the idea of having one as a keychain or something permanently in my bag.

When I was in Cape Breton recently I also came across an old 110 camera still with film in it which has the expiry of 1982, 5 years before I was born! I'm interested to know if these will come out at all.

A sample picture from the Lomography website, this guy looks strangely familiar thou!

Halifax engagement photography

I'm jumping ahead a bit here from showing you the work I've recently done but it's because I'm so excited to share these photos. Topher and Rae are from 2 different places and were brought together by Halifax. I love this city and I love a great love story and these two have one. We started in the public gardens with him playing the guitar and her singing, something that they love to do together then headed up Spring Garden to Just Us! cafe, where they had their first date. I can't wait to shoot at their intimate Peggy's Cove wedding later this summer!

Magnolias+Model

Sheena is a young model building her portfolio and after our conversations about what would be good for her portfolio- some natural light portraits taken outside, we settled on the location of the Kings/ Dalhousie architecture. I was excited to shoot in that location as I never had before and I was very pleasantly surprised when I found one of my favourite trees, with big beautiful Magnolias growing.

Cape Breton Cabin

Last week we headed up the coast to Cape Breton and after driving around the beautiful Cabot Trail, we stayed at one of our friends cabins. I didn't really know what to expect, especially after she said that we had to shower outside. I'd stayed at a few kinds of cabins before but this was a real cabin, built by family, the place where furniture and boardgames that are no longer needed throughout the year go to live out their lives, to be loved again over the summer when the family visit. I shot these images one rainy day when I wanted to stay inside and enjoy the fire.

Yep, this is how crazy my hair looks on these kinds of days..
